Kenny Loggins

He’s the undisputed King of 80s Movies Tunes. From Footloose to Top Gun, Kenny Loggins literally provided the soundtrack for a generation.

Sure, he may have started in the 70s sounding like a bad John Denver imitation, but our man Kenny found his electric guitar ’round about 1980, and man, he was off and running.

First came the killer “I’m Alright” for Caddyshack. A couple years later, he got us all up and out of our seats for some white-people dancing, with “Footloose”, and “I’m Free”.

Lord knows we didn’t buy the Top Gun soundtrack for that sappy Berlin song. Gag me. Between “Danger Zone” and “Playing with the Boys”, Top Gun was all about Kenny (and Tom Cruise, sure… but mostly Kenny).

If you gotta finish, finish strong, we always say. There’s nothing like a soaring power ballad to close things out, and “Meet Me Halfway” from Over the Top (yes, the arm wrestling movie) was as good as it gets.

He may have gone all gooey again in the 90s, but that doesn’t diminish all that he gave us during the best decade ever.

We ♥ Kenny Loggins.
