Members Only Jackets

Because no Kleenex-thin jacket would be complete without epaulets. Because, as the ad told us, “When you put it on, something happens.” Because you needed to be able to choose from maroon, teal, black, grey, sky blue, or even (oh yes) leather.

For all those reasons and more… that, my friends, that is why you were nothing without a Members Only jacket.

As quintessentially 80s as the Flock of Seagulls haircut and Howard the Duck, Members Only jackets were all the rage, from school dances to the food court at the mall.

There’s no real explaining why they were such a hit… maybe it was the elastic waist, maybe it was the lapel pocket, or maybe (just maybe) it was those handy snaps at the neck to make sure you were really buttoned-up.

Their hipness spanned all demographics– from teens to dads. And, yes, even the ladies could get in on the action, too.

And even though we never found out what we were members of (other than the cool kids club) , it didn’t matter. All we cared about was that our jackets were awesome… to the max.

We ♥ Members Only Jackets.
