Walking on Sunshine

“I say it, I say it, I say it again now…”

Quick—name a song by Katrina and the Waves.

Okay… now name another one.

We’ll wait.

Give up? It’s okay. Apparently fair Katrina only made one song with her beloved Waves… but oh, what a song it is.

There’s been thousands of one-hit wonders in our time (and most of them came from the 80s), but is there a more peppy, more get-up-and-dance, more rainbows-and-happiness-evoking song than “Walking on Sunshine”?

We think not.

A slammin’ snare drum, some blaring horns, and that crazy tambourine… all colliding in a symphony of bubbly pop goodness. (Did we go a little overboard there?)

It started its climb up the charts in March 1985, finally reaching #9 on June 22. (And, to be fair K&tW did have 3 other songs make the Billboard Top 100– but only one got into the Top 40– “Do You Want Crying”)

It’s been featured in countless commercials, movies, and TV shows as the ultimate symbol of happiness (remember this scene from The Secret of My Success?)

In a funk? Need to be happy again? Just give it a listen.

Don’t it feel good? We sure think so.

We ♥ Walking on Sunshine.
