Ocean Pacific (OP)
Because the 80s were all about head-scratching fashion. Because we all wished we lived near a beach, even if we were stranded in suburban Des Moines. Because there’s nothing like a stylish pair of corduroy shorts to keep you warm and cool at the same time (we compare it to wearing a fur t-shirt… or a fishnet parka).
For all those reasons and more, OP (technically ‘Ocean Pacific’, but who really called it that?) was at the forefront of the fashion scene in the early 80s.
Indeed, it could be snowing where you were, the nearest ocean may have been more than 1,000 miles away, and you hadn’t ever even seen a surfboard, much less actually stood up on one while killer waves crashed beneath you…
…but that didn’t mean that you couldn’t look like you just stepped off the plane from Honolulu. T-shirts, polo shirts, windbreakers, and, yes, even our beloved baby blue cord shorts were all the rage, emblazoned with that big “O” and little “p”.
While the company fell on hard times in the 90s (heck, it was the 90s after all), Op is still alive and well– and actually the (Walmart-housed) clothes of choice for Gleeksters Finn and Quinn.
We’re not sure how we feel about that, but at least we’ll always have the 80s, and for us Op was so very 80s.
We ♥ Ocean Pacific.
