Dark Tower

So, you don’t have the time to sit around on a Friday night playing Dungeons and Dragons with your friends? Well, have we got a game for you. Battle brigands! Face dragons! Haggle in the bazaar! Run for cover in the sanctuary!

Yes, it’s time to clear off the kitchen table and dig out that big brown box with the monolith on the cover, for we are here to play…

Dark Tower.

You, sir knight, are on your quest to find three keys (brass, silver, gold), but this is no walk in the park. You have to cross frontiers, win battles, and then, if you’re lucky enough to survive, enter the dark tower for the mother of all battles. But do you have enough warriors? We’ll see.

Half board game, half electronic wizardry, Milton Bradley’s Dark Tower was just about the coolest thing to come down the pike, especially on those days where you were just Atari’d out. What set this thing apart from the competition was… well, the dark tower– a foot-high thing of beauty with lights, sounds, and revolving innards. No longer were you relegated to tossing dice and just pushing your primary-colored piece around the board; now you were a knight, and you had things to do, places to be, butts to kick.

Because of a ‘misappropriation of trade secrets’ lawsuit (read: ‘stolen idea’), the game wasn’t long for this world, but while it lasted, man, whoo! It was a whole lotta awesome fun.
