Straight Outta Compton

“You are now about to witness the strength of street knowledge…”

Some albums are loaded with great songs. Some albums are game-changers. And sometimes, if an album is just that good, it’s both.

In the summer of 1988, N.W.A. released their first album Straight Outta Compton, and blam! nothing was ever the same again.

Dr. Dre, Ice Cube, Easy-E, MC Ren, and DJ Yella hit the ground running with what would go on to become one of the seminal albums in music history.

From the opening lines of the title track (“Straight outta Compton, crazy motherfucker named Ice Cube, from the gang called Niggaz With Attitude. When I’m called off I got a sawed-off, squeeze the trigger, and bodies are hauled off…”) to the even-more-controversial “Fuck tha Police”, Straight Outta Compton introduced America to what would soon become known as “gangsta rap”.

Rapping about gunfights, drive-bys, and police brutality, NWA gave a voice to LA’s inner city. Straight Outta Compton was brutal, ridiculously profane, and, most importantly, honest. It opened the rest of the country’s eyes to a growing epidemic that would reach a boiling point less than three years later. Hellooooo Rodney King!

Straight Outta Compton went on to sell more than 3 million copies, influence dozens (if not hundreds) of rappers from coast to coast, and it still stands today as one of the all-time greats.

“As I leave, believe I’m stompin’, but when I come back, boy… I’m comin’ straight outta Compton.”

We ♥ Straight Outta Compton.
