So, 80s kids, can you remember a time when there wasn’t an Energizer Bunny?
He (or ‘she’, we suppose) first arrived on the scene in 1988, and the whole thing was, interestingly enough, pretty much Duracell’s fault.
In the early 80s, the Copper Top’s ads
featured a pink bunny, banging a drum. (Sound familiar?) Energizer realized that hitting their main competition right where it hurts might be the way to go, and sure enough… they were right.
That 1988 ad that started it all quickly made Energizer even more of a household name.
Over the years, the Bunny has appeared in more than 100 different Energizer commercials, some were spoof ads that the Bunny would wander into, and others found lil Bun-Bun surviving sabotage at the hands of baddies like Wile E. Coyote and Darth Vader.
Through it all he’s kept on keepin’ on… so much so that the term ‘Energizer Bunny’ has come into our vernacular as a metaphor for endurance and perseverance.
We’d say that was one heck of a successful ad campaign.
And it’s, well… still going.
We ♥ the Energizer Bunny.
