“What oozes downstairs and gets into hair, and makes a really gross sound? Everyone knows it’s sli-ime!”

Okay, so Mattel didn’t really co-opt the Slinky theme song for their notoriously awful goo–– we’re just having a little fun.

…just like we did when we opened our miniature plastic garbage cans and poured out the most foul-smelling, snot-like substance ever created by man.

Ah, Slime.

It first hit the market in the winter of 1976, but by the time the 80s rolled around it was huuuge, and not going anywhere anytime fast. There was Slime with plastic spiders mixed in, glow-in-the-dark Slime, and, of course, the awesome He-Man Slime:

Funny–– whenever we pulled it out for a little playtime fun, our parents suddenly became very attentive and tried bribing us with ice cream… if we would only put it away.

Indeed, Topless Robot called it the single most hated toy from our generation.

Yep, we’d say that’s about right–– which is exactly why…

We ♥ Slime.
