First came the $10,000 Pyramid, then the $20,000 Pyramid, then $50,000… and it would later go on to be $100,000 before eventually being re-branded as just plain ol’ Pyramid.
But right in the middle there, from 1982-1988, was THE Pyramid–– the Dick Clark one. The king of them all… the $25,000 Pyramid.
If you’re confused, don’t worry–– this show changed its name more than Jefferson Airplane, for heaven’s sake. But through it all, the original $25,000 Pyramid has endured as one of the best game shows of all time.
Celebrities from Michael J. Fox to Markie Post would be doling out/receiving those seven clues in 30 seconds to get to the Winner’s Circle for a chance at all the loot:
And, for our money, there’s no better sixty seconds in game show-ville than those moments in the Winner’s Circle where the giver is sitting on her hands, and the receiver is trying to figure out what the heck he’s being given clues for…
“The people. The music. The dancers. The confetti…”
THINGS AT A PARTY!
And with the smooth-as-silk Dick Clark there to guide us through the whole thing? Pure awesome.
We ♥ $25,000 Pyramid.
