Slap Bracelets

If there’s one thing we’ve learned over the years, it’s that sometimes the 90s try to pull a fast one… taking credit for something that really came from the 80s.

Back to the Future III? Yeah, just ’cause it came out in 1990 doesn’t mean it’s not ‘all-80s all-the-way’. And Duran Duran? Really, 90s? Yes, “Ordinary World” was a big hit, but have you forgotten “Rio”, “Hungry Like the Wolf”, and “Planet Earth”? C’MON!

…which brings us to slap bracelets. Listen up, 90s.

Stuart Anders was a shop teacher in Wisconsin in 1983, and he was toyin’ around with some bistable strips of steel when he discovered something pretty nifty–– SLAP!

Yep, the tension in that strip of steel allowed it to quickly became a curved, almost bracelet-like structure. Hmmmmm.

Several years later (yes, it was 1990) Anders hooked up with a big-shot from Main Street Toy Company, and the slap bracelet became the obsession that it is today.

So you see? All you 90s kids who want to lay claim to the Slap Bracelet? You better just pump the brakes a little.

If it hadn’t been for the 80s, there never would have been a slap bracelet.

Next time you want to take credit for something that’s not yours, 90s, you better bring your A-game. Slap Bracelets are all ours.

We ♥ Slap Bracelets.
